It brought back memories of my own childhood, even a tree story from before my time. When my parents first moved into their own house (I was not around yet, born the following February), my father was sent out to buy a "nice table tree for the table in the corner". Not sure what he was thinking but the tree he came home with (so I'm told) would not even fit in the house to sit on the floor without some bottom branches cut off. Advent began every year with a discussion on when we were going to go get the tree, which was always accompanied by a retelling of this story. Life's turnings mean that neither my father nor I have live Christmas trees these days, but your wonderful write-up brings that glorious smell, mental pictures of those special ornaments and hanging the lovely tinsel strand by strand, and the Christmas feeling to my mind.
